On 16 May 2016, the Fans/NOSBL Family gathered at North Highland Assembly of God's Church Gymnasium to support another evening of basketball.  This has been an incredible season.  Our NOSBL Family is growing and becoming more active in the league.  That has been the dream and we are finally getting there.  Thanks to all of you for taking the time to support the players and the National Old School Basketball League®.  The first game was played between the Hawks and Heat.  It would become their second meeting of the regular season.   Each team will play each other three times.  The Heat won the first contest on 2 May with a 62 - 56 victory.

The first half was all about getting comfortable, activating the team's game plan, and establishing rhythm.  The Hawks started the game attacking the Heat's zone.  Kevin Douglas (#4) consistently penetrated the defense to reach the perimeter of the rim and so did his teammates.  Fortunately, for the Heat, it did not produce a lot of points.  I spent most of the first half assessing what type zone the Heat were in.  At times, the zone looked like a 2 - 3 then it would convert to look like a 2 - 1 - 2.  When the Hawks would pass the ball, around the perimeter of the 3-point arc, the Heat's guards were left scrambling to close out space.  It definitely was not an effective zone, but they were committed to the concept and hustling.  The Hawks' Kevin Douglas (#4) and Ernest Adams (#34) led all scorers with 11 and 8 points, respectively.  The team scored three 3-pointers and committed nine team fouls.

The Heat executed their offensive strategy by passing the ball through their leading player, Felton Scott (#17).  That opened the door for seven players to score.  Tim Elder (#14) led the Heat's first half of scoring with 7 points.  The Heat scored on five 3-pointers and committed five team fouls.  The first half ended with Tim Elder receiving an in-bound pass and dribbling across halfcourt to stop-pop-and-drop a 3-pointer to push the Heat over the Hawks 26 - 23.

The second half heated up with the Hawks', Kevin Douglas (#4), pouring in 17 points along with 7 points from Roderick Williams (#25).  The Hawks scored on six 3-pointers.  They also committed two technical fouls and 14 team fouls.  The Heat continued their selfless ball distribution and substitutions to get seven players to score.  If players were not scoring, they were rebounding, making assists, and committing steals.  Both teams put on a "Team Show".  The Heat's, Felton Scott, finally found the basket's sweet spot and scored 16 second half points.  The Heat committed nine team fouls.  The Heat went on to win the second meeting 65 - 56 to lead the series 2 - 0.

The Heat's scorers were:  #17 Felton Scott with 19 points, #3 Michael Brown with 10, #27 Christopher Alexander with 9, #24 Sidney Dowlen with 8, #14 Tim Elder with 7, #11 Norman King with 6, #15 Johnny Sanchez with 4, #13 Donald Brophy with 1, and #33 Otis Lewis with 1 points.

The Hawks' scorers were:  #4 Kevin Douglas with 28 points, #34 Ernest Adams with 8, #25 Roderick Williams with 7, #0 Michael Smith with 6, #23 Yohance Thompson with 4, and #21 Frank Wilcox with 3 points.
