On Saturday, 14 May 2016, the defending champions (Celtics) were presented with their awards for winning the NOSBL XV Eastern Division Championship.  Individual awards were presented to Tim Sanks (NOSBL XV Scoring Champion with 487 points) and Jerel Jackson (NOSBL XV Finals Most Valuable Player).  I want to thank Mr. Cleotis Brown and Phenix City Parks and Recreation for welcoming the NOSBL to play at the C-Club Gymnasium.  It was a wonderful experience and great environment.

The Celtics and Kingdom Ballers played at 3:00 PM.  The Celtics wasted no time attacking the defense of the Kingdom Ballers.  Tim Sanks (#23) and Jerel Jackson (#24) opened the game with a barrage of shots.  Tim Sanks led all scorers, at the half, with 25 points (to include one 3-pointer) and Jerel Jackson added 21 points with 12 of his points deriving from 3-pointers.  They scored 46 of the team's 50 first half points.  The Celtics committed one team foul.

The Kingdom Ballers made every attempt to close the gap with shooting from six scorers to score 36 first half points.  Wason Davis (#11) led the Kingdom Ballers with 12 points.  The team scored on six 3-pointers.  Shederah Hughes (#96) provided two 3-pointers to add to his 8 points.  Toney McCommons (#33) added two 3-pointers for his six points and Wason Davis provided six of his points from 3-point range.  The Kingdom Ballers committed four team fouls.

We can talk about the scoring of the Celtics all day long, but to dismiss the incredible role of Steve Woodson would be a big mistake.  Woodson has been with the Celtics for two seasons and he dominating the paint.  He has to, sometimes, battle two to three defenders for rebounds and blocked shots.  His defense and offensive shooting play an enormous role in their ability to keep other teams from scoring.  On Saturday, he score 9 points and they were all 3-pointers.  That shows his versatility.  Scoring is great, but keeping the opposition from scoring is A Mountain Mover.

The second half yielded almost identical results.  The Celtics increased their scoring by one point to score 51 points and the Kingdom Ballers increased the scoring by two points to score 38 points.  The Celtics' Tim Sanks took over the shooting with 32 second half points.  No other teammate scored more than 9 points.  Wason Davis continued to lead the Kingdom Ballers with 16 points.  The Celtics went on to defeat the Kingdom Ballers 101 - 74.

The Celtics' scorers were:  #23 Tim Sanks with 57 points, #24 Jerel Jackson with 28 points, #2 Steve Woodson with 11 points, and Al Wilson with 5 points.

The Kingdom Ballers' scorers were:  #11 Wason Davis with 28 points, #96 Shederah Hughes with 14 points, #33 Tony McCommons with 13 points, #22 Antonio Harris with 11 points, #3 Christopher Mathis with 4 points and Darrell Sumbry with 4 points.
