On 30 January 2017, the Heat and Kingdom Ballers reported with a mission to defeat their opponents and extend their lifelines to continue their stay in round one of the National Old School Basketball League XVII Playoffs.

The Heat and Bombers played in the first game that started at 7:00 pm.  This game was close from the beginning to the sound of the buzzer ending the game.  The Heat's Felton Scott (#31) scored 17 points and Michael Brown (#3) scored 12 points to send a strong message to the Bombers that the Heat had no intentions of going home.  Both players also shared 10 rebounds, five each, during the first half.  The Bombers responded with Jimmy Foster (#22) scoring 14 points and Shederal Hughes (#38) adding 11.  There were 13 lead changes and six tied scores by the end of the first half.  The Heat held a four point (39 - 35) lead over the Bombers.  The second half produced more adrenaline as the pressure of the second half and running clock were counting down.  There were four tied scores and nine lead changes as both teams struggled to score.  The Heat dropped from 39 to 29 points in the second half and the Bombers dropped from 35 - 26.  Felton Scott and Johnny Sanchez (#15) kept the Heat ahead with 20 combined points.  Christopher Watson (#33) perked up and led the Bombers with 11 points along with 12 combined points from James Dix (#10) and Jimmy Foster (#22).  The Heat pulled off a 68 - 61 point lead to remain in the playoffs.

The second game, between the 76ers and Kingdom Ballers, turned out to be another close game that failed to give the Ballers the results they wanted to achieve.  Lester Hood (#45) stepped out of the shadows to lead the 76ers, in scoring, with 17 first half points.  Willie Tennyson (#34) joined in to contribute six rebounds and one block. Ten points from Lamont Shuford (#11) and nine points from Antonio Anthony (#3) kept the Kingdom Ballers in pursuit of keeping the 76ers within reach.  Shuford collected six first half rebounds, as well.  The 76ers withstood the Ballers' challenge and ended the first half 40 - 36.  Tim Sanks put the 76ers on his back as he scored 20 second half points to secure the team's victory, but Shuford was not ready to go home by scoring 13 points.  Fouls, down the stretch, would hurt the Kingdom Ballers.  They committed 12 team fouls that allowed the 76ers to score 11 points from free-throws.  The 76ers committed eight team fouls that resulted in three points for the Kingdom Ballers.  Both teams scored 36 points in the second half that resulted in the Kingdom Ballers losing to the 76ers 76 - 72.
