The second game of the evening of 29 December 2016 was played between the NHA Hawks and Nets. Though both teams are on the complete opposite ends of the win/loss pole, the game was very good. The game started with the Hawks winning the tip-off and scoring three points from Kevin Douglas (#22). They built an early 8 - 0 lead that caused the Nets to request a full timeout at 17:12 of the first half. That would turnout to be the only timeout called, from either team, for the rest of the half. Jeffery Lemon (#22) finally put the Nets of the scoreboard to start the competition. The Hawks were led by Kevin Douglas with 10 points, (#15) Kenyatta Hardge with 9 points, and (#34) Ernest Adams with 8 points. The Nets had six players to score with Jeffery Lemon and Ramard Morgan (#32) leading the team with four (4) points, each. The Hawks reeled in 19 rebounds and the Nets grabbed 18. There were no lead changes or tied scores as the Hawks outscored the Nets 32 - 19 to close out the first half.
The Nets started the second half with outstanding defense and offense. They went on a 20 to 7 scoring run to tie the score at 39. The run and hustle must have really exhausted the Nets because they only scored seven (7) points to the Hawks' 18 points for the rest of the game. It was good to see the Nets put together a run as they continue to improve. It would be a mistake for any team to underestimate the will of the Nets during the playoffs. I admire them for their commitment and hard play. The Hawks defeated the Nets 57 - 46.
The scorers for the Nets were: (#33) Darrell Willis with 3 points, 1 rebound, and 1 block; (#22) Jeffery Lemon with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal; (#31) Yohance Thompson with 8 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals; (#21) Keith LaFavor with 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block; (#40) Willie Fillmore with 9 points; 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal; (#32) Ramard Morgan with 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist; (#30) Demetrius Jordan with 1 rebound, 3 assists, and 1 steal; (#45) Roderick Williams with 2 points and 1 rebound; (#14) Shawn Mathews with 3 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.
