On 3 December 2016, the Hawks returned to the gymnasium two days after losing their first game against the Celtics.  The loss dropped the teams record to 10 - 1.  On Saturday, the Hawks played their scheduled game against the (7-3) Heat at 2:00 p.m.  Both teams were missing personnel, but fortunate for the Hawks, they had their "human machine" Quentin Leonard in the lineup.  Leonard is the league's leading scorer averaging 31 points per game.

The first half started with the Hawks', Quentin Leonard, scoring on the team’s first possession.  Donald Brophy (#13) scored the first two points for the Heat.  I was surprised to see the Heat requesting their first timeout, at 16:01, with the Hawks holding only a 7 - 2 lead.  At 9:53, the Heat held a 20 - 18 point lead.  What was more shocking was that the Heat elected to use three of their five timeouts before the first half would end.  Their Heat's last timeout was called with 2:48 remaining in the half with the Hawks leading 26 - 22.  The teams changed leads seven (7) times and tied scores three times before the first half ended.  The Heat led the Hawks 30 - 28 at the end of the first half.  Quentin Leonard led all scorers with 17 points.

By the start of the second half, the Heat had only two timeouts remaining versus four for the Hawks.  Six lead changes and five ties would take place before the game was determined.  Quentin Leonard (#24) and Kenyatta Hardge (#15) stepped up to lead the Hawks with 35 of the teams 44 second half points.  Quentin Leonard scored 24 points and Hardge scored 11 points.  The Heat score 33 second half points with all five players scoring not more than eight (8) points, each.  What concerned me about the Heat was to see one of the major leaders spending more time conversing with the fans than playing basketball.  I watched him give up 2-on-1 fast breaks for pull-up jumpers.  That was a very disappointing sight when the other players were battling fatigue.  The Hawks outscored the Heat 44 - 33 to win the game 72 - 63.

The scorers for the Heat were:  (#11) Norman King, Jr. with 10 points, (#3) Michael Brown with 11 points, (#15) Johnny Sanchez with 14 points, (#13) Donald Brophy with 16 points, and (#17) Alphonzo Jukes with 12 points.

The scorers for the Hawks were:  (#34) Ernest Adams with 7 points, (#10) Frank Wilcox with 3 points, (#15) Kenyatta Hardge with 15 points, (#24) Quentin Leonard with 41 points, and (#33) Shaun Jenkins with 6 points.
