On Saturday, 15 October 2016, The Celtics and Bulls returned to North Highland Assembly of God's Church Gymnasium to engage in each of their fourth game of the season. Both teams played their last game on 10 October when the Celtics fell to the Bombers and the Bulls rallied pass the Kingdom Ballers. The Celtics reported with a 2 - 1 record and the Bulls reported with a 1 - 2 record.
The Celtics came out of the blocks running and gunning! All five players were scoring as they built an early 11 - 2 lead over the Bulls. The Bulls requested a timeout to slow down the Celtics and were able to get back into the game with a 10 to 11 point run to cut the Celtics' lead to 22 - 12. The Celtics felt good about themselves and continued their run to end the first half 35 - 21. As I examined both teams, I noticed that the Celtics were without a specified team leader. That is worth noting because the defending champions are known for their discipline and player/coach being on the bench keeping the team focused. Absence of Al Wilson, the team's captain, was definitely missing because there was no one there to coral the type game that was developing. On the other side of the court, I watched the Bulls do what they are known for: Analyzing the referees more than focusing on the game. The bright spot, for the Bulls, was having a new player unbeknownst of their past behaviors: Navarro Davis. Davis stayed focused on playing, scoring, and winning. His behavior overshadowed all the other noise. Davis ended the first half with nine (9) points.
The second half started with the Bulls trailing the Celtics by 14 points. At the 8:18 minute mark, remaining in the game, the Bulls were within seven (7) points. Navarro Davis and Philip Whittington were leading the charge wear down the weakening Celtics. With 2:31, remaining in the game, the Bulls were within one (1) point and by 45.4 seconds, they had taken the lead with a 55 - 53 reversal. The two teams shared a 57 point tie with 5.4 seconds remaining. The Bulls came out of a timeout; threw the ball to Navarro Davis in the right corner; and the rest was history when Davis closed the door with a 3-pointer that ended the game 60 - 57.
The Bulls clearly flipped the switch on the Celtics. The Celtics scored 35 points versus 21 points from the Bulls to end the first half. The Bulls scored 39 points versus 22 points from the Celtics in the second half. The Celtics survived off 15 made free throws in the second half. The Bulls' Navarro Davis dropped 16 points and Philip Whittington threw in an additional 10 points to capture a great comeback victory.
The scorers, for the Celtics, were: #8 Jerald Mahone with 10 points, #2 Steve Woodson with 15 points, #00 Ralph Mathews with 13 points, #0 James Daniels with 10 points, and #50 Jack Cannon with 9 points.
The scorers, for the Bulls, were: #33 Ian Trowers with 2 points, #32 Ernest Hosley with 2 points, #7 Quantez Franklin with 2 points, #3 Philip Whittington with 15 points, #45 Navarro Davis with 25 points, #8 Troy McBride with 12 points, and #10 Desi Johnson with 2 points.
